That little mystery meat there is donkey. And it tastes as rancid as it looks. The waitress was even kind enough to pour some vinegar sauce on it. You know, to enhance the flavor. Well it still had a weird taste and texture to it that I can’t quite describe. Up until now I have never tasted donkey but have always been curious. Today I discovered it being served on the menu of a restaurant next to Little Sichuan, my favorite place to eat outside the gates of the university, for only 8元 (about $1). I hope it doesn’t come back up tonight.
